Magento 2 Search Settings

In this part, I am going to guide you through the main components and how to configure the search feature in the default Magento 2.

Quick Search settings

The Quick Search box placed on the top right corner of the website will show visitors results such as Best-sellers, Newest products, or Most Viewed items, according to the backend configuration.

When customers type in keywords in the search box, search results, which are already set up, will be displayed. Based on the settings, the result details can include other information such as names, prices, short description, or images. If customers select a result, they will be taken to that page instantly.

  • Configure the Visibility:
    • Not Visible Individually: The product is hidden from both catalog and search.
    • Catalog: The product can be viewed on Catalog.
    • Search: The product can be searched.
    • Catalog, Search: The product can be viewed on Catalog and searched.

Advanced Search configuration

By using Magento 2 advanced search settings, you can enable your customers to search for products in a deeper filter. They can fill in different parameters at the same time, for instance the SKU, price ranges, description, and more.

Search Results

The search results list will be displayed after users search using the Quick Search box or the Advanced Search section. They will appear in two ways: a product grid, or a product list.

It is possible for you to configure how many results are included in a page. This setting is essential if the product list reaches a second page.

The Weighted Search can be used to set priorities for the search results. In case there are multiple attributes in the Advanced Catalog Search form, search results will be decided upon the attributes’ weight. The higher the weight is, the more priority it has. The highest priority is 10.

For instance, if ‘color’ has the weight of 5, while ‘description’ has the weight of 1, then when users enter the keyword ‘blue’, the results will include only products that have ‘blue’ color, but not the products with the ‘blue’ word in the description. You can configure this in the ‘Search Weight’ section of the ‘Storefront Properties’ page.

Catalog Search settings

Now we will explain how to enable the MySQL search engine and control the valid query text size:

  • In the Admin Panel, follow the Stores > Settings > Configuration
  • Select Catalog option and Catalog Search:
